My Tips For Hitting The Slopes This Winter

Okay, I love the sun. I am, for an intents and purposes, I am a chaser of the summer. That means that I spend my time figuring out where it is warm in the world and then travelling to said country. I know – it is pretty amazing!

But, that doesn’t mean that I don’t value the benefits of a winter holiday. I like any vacation that gets me out of my comfort zone and travelling to new places. As winter is on the way, I thought I would do a post about skiing. Inevitably, there are a lot of people who are going to hit the slopes this winter, and I thought I would pass on a few of my tips.

I hope they help!

When To Go?

Obviously, you are going in the winter time, although you can ski during the spring in some places. But, some parts of the winter are more in demand than others. Christmas, for example, is incredibly popular, which reflects in the price. If you just want to visit the slopes because you love to ski, I would recommend going when it is a bit quieter, like September to November.

Pick A Good Resort

The resort can make or break a skiing holiday. Regardless of your expertise, you want a resort that has plenty of varieties. Whether you are a novice or an expert, there will still be plenty of places for you to practice or challenge your skills. Val Thorens in the French Alps is the biggest resort in Europe. It is a place known for being challenging for all skiers. I like to do some research before I make my final decision.

Pack Plenty Of Warm Clothing

Don’t kid yourself – it is not going to be warm! It might not be as cold as you first thought, but I guarantee that it won’t be red hot. I see plenty of people make that mistake when they go skiing, and they pay for it in the end. A thick jacket, gloves, a hat, and warm socks are all a must. The last thing you want to do is spend a week freezing to death on the slopes!

Hire Transport From The Airport

Ski slopes are notoriously difficult places to get to because they are so isolated. Lots of people spend hours getting from the airport to the resort and waste a day of their holiday on arrival. I don’t like that idea because I love to explore as soon as I land, which is why Peak 1 Express appeals to me. Companies like Peak 1 provide excellent, affordable and quick transport to and from the airport.

Rent Equipment When You Get There

How much do you go skiing in a year? If the answer is only a handful of times, it might be better to hire your kit when you arrive. I know that it costs more, but it also saves a lot of hassle. Getting your skis on the plane and up to the resort is one of the worst aspects of a skiing holiday.
